Shadowclad Prime
Combine the warmth, versatility and durability of a natural band sawn cladding with the convenience and cost saving benefits of a factory applied pre primed surface which is an ideal for use with most paint and selected film forming stain coating systems.
Shadowclad Prime Features
- The factory applied primer thermally fuses polyester particles to the sheet to form a continuous film enhancing sheet durability and forming an effective moisture barrier for a dryer painting surface.
- Save up to 15% in top coating costs when compared with using traditional wet primer systems with Shadowclad Natural*
- Provides a smoother, more consistent surface suitable for immediate on site top coating with paints and selected film forming stains.
- Allows greater square meter coverage of top coats than traditional wet primer systems.
- Laps and edges primed increasing edge protection and durability during installation.
- Cost effective all in one cladding and bracing solution when installed in accordance with current installation literature.
- For maximum durability and to achieve 50 year durability as required for claddings used as bracing under the NZBC Clause B2.3.1a Carter Holt Harvey Woodproducts recommends coating with a good quality, regularly maintained acrylic latex coating system with a light reflectance value (LRV) of 40% or greater**
- 3rd party certified by the EWPAA to meet AS/ NZS 2269:2008 Plywood- Structural as required under the NZBC for plywood used in structural applications.
- Primer contains no Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
- Manufactured from sustainable New Zealand plantation Pinus radiata
- Available FSC certified upon request.
*Cost savings are based on external paint coat trials comparing painting of Shadowclad Prime vs. Shadowclad Natural applied as per coating manufacturer specifications.
**Some film forming timber finishes enable Shadowclad to meet the 50 year durability requirement as outlined in NZBC Clause B2.3.1a for cladding used as bracing. Advice and assurances from relevant coating manufacturers must be sought and details submitted for approval with any building consent applications.

Within 3 Months of installing Shadowclad Prime

Ensure panels are clean and dry prior to applying top coats. Top coat with two coats of premium 100% acrylic exterior house paint or film forming stain.

Wash the surface with a mild detergent solution to remove dust, sea salt, mould spores or chalky material on the surface of panels.Ensure panels are dry prior to applying two coats of premium 100% acrylic exterior house paint.

For Best Results:
(i) Allow 24 hours between top coats
(ii) Use a top coating system with a light reflectance of 40% or greater
(iii) Washed down panels prior to coating. Panels must be dry prior to applying top coats.

*To allow for movement, a 2 to 3mm expansion gap must be provided at all sheet edges except the long shiplap edges of cladding which already allow for it. Shadowclad® Natural Texture: Butt top lap up to adjoining sheet to maintain 1200mm cover width (a 3mm expansion gap has been allowed for at the back of the shiplap)
**Where Shadowclad® is installed over a drained ventilated cavity, 50% of the Shadowclad® R-value should be used to calculate the total R-value of the wall.
